I make no apologies for loving the Sylvester McCoy era - and Ace - in particular. One day, you'll all see things my way!

I did this as a commission piece for my pal Matt. Came out quite nice, didn't it?

You know, actually, McCoy is my favorite in many ways. Ace too! The writing may not be as great as some other runs, but many of the episodes are still classically wonderful.

Aw who am I kidding, I love them all. Haha.

I honestly think some of the writing in those last two McCoy series is first class. I think the problem is that there was less good will at the BBC towards the show by then, and less determination to make the show look and feel really amazing. I think how great the Knights from Battlefield or the Kandyman would look with Phillip Hinchcliffe as producer, you know? I mean, I like John Nathan Turner fine, but there is a slight tawdriness which creeps in during his era.

But the scripts, especially in those last two series, often sublime. Remembrance of the Daleks, Ghost Light, Fenric, Survival - all first rate. And even the weaker ones have something interesting in them. Imagine if they had made The Happiness Patrol in BLACK AND WHITE (as they'd intended!). It was originally called The Crooked Smile - doesn't get more Moffatty than that, does it?

That's a good point about the writing. It's hard to imagine what the constraints on producing a great script would have been like at the time. You have to write multipart episodes that reuse every set location to make budgetary sense. Not to mention dealing with a network that doesn't want to work with you. But I do agree that the greatness of the show shines through all of that.

Whaa ha, Seven's expression is class!

Seven and Ace is right up there with Two and Jamie.

I completely agree. But let's not leave Victoria/Zoe out of the equation - they're brilliant with the Doctor and Jamie. Zoe and Two are particularly adorable.

Oh, this is great stuff! What a treat to see a comics-esque take on Doctor Who... And right on with the McCoy & Ace love. I've resigned myself to the fact that there will always be haters, but like you I've decided not to let that stop me.
